"My field trip to Abercorn Common was great.  I learned they use rainwater in their fountain instead of real water. Also they hold water in the back in cisterns."
- Caroline, 4th Grade Student

"This shopping center is certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).  You Learn so many things at the Abercorn Common. It shows you how much the earth needs your help."
- Bailey, 4th Grade Student

"The parking spaces at Abercorn Common are different than ordinary parking spaces.  These parking spaces are made from porous concrete instead of regular concrete.  Porous concrete is special because when it rains the water that hits the concrete dissolves instead of making a puddle."
- William, 4th Grade Student

"The coolest thing is they built the first environmentally friendly McDonald’s in the world!  They also have these lanterns that use 27 watts that shine like a 100 watt light bulb."
- Jacob, 4th Grade Student

"The old building rubble was either recycled or used to build certain parts of the complex."
- Sales, 4th Grade Student

"When they tore it down they crushed the rock.  The used the rock on things so they didn’t need to buy them.  The rest they gave to people who would recycle the materials."
- Alex, 4th Grade Student

"The also made the roofs white so the heat would reflect off the roof and not make the building hot.  If you have a black roof, the heat would go inside the building.  It would cause people who own the building to turn the air conditioner on and waste energy."
- Erika, 4th Grade Student

"I think that the field trip to Abercorn Common was the most interesting field trip I've been on. The rainwater on the roofs of those buildings gets pumped into a cistern behind the buildings. It is then used to power the fountain instead of using the city water."
- Lindsay, 4th Grade Student

"People like the people who built this shopping center are bound to make a difference somewhere."
- Elizabeth, 4th Grade Student

"I hope they build more LEED certified shopping centers.  I really enjoyed the field trip to Abercorn Common."
- Preston, 4th Grade Student
