Many of our properties are located within the "hurricane belt" of the Southeast.
With this in mind, we are providing this very basic set of guidelines for a hurricane.
Drowning
is the most common cause of death in a hurricane. It takes 26 - 30
hours to evacuate. You must be ready to evacuate at least 36 hours
before landfall.
- Choose a SAFE ROOM that will protect you from flying debris (interior closet, room with no windows)
- Keep emergency supplies in SAFE ROOM
- Move car(s) to higher ground
- Bring everything into house that can blow away
- Identify Safe Island Routes in case of evacuation. Have detailed local road maps
- Identify
local shelters: In Chatham County, the shelters are these public
schools: Savannah Arts Academy, Ellis, Haven, Gould, Bloomingdale,
Pooler
- Be prepared to take all pets with you in case of evacuation
- Shelters
are not equipped to assist people with health or medical problems who
require daily assistance. People with such needs must register with
their home health care providers well in advance of a storm.
