Savannah, Ga.-based real estate developer Melaver Inc., known for its sustainable practices, has purchased an office building at 2101 Highland Ave.
The property is the third in the company's Birmingham portfolio. Melaver is planning a $130 million redevelopment of the downtown Federal Reserve building into a hotel, offices and residential space; the company also owns the World Business Center at 500 Beacon Parkway.
Melaver sees the Highland Avenue building as an opportunity to implement sustainable practices, said Colin Coyne, the company's chief operating officer. Plans call for modifications to reduce energy consumption, such as the replacement of lights and heating systems.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Tenants in the Highland Avenue building include AG Edwards, Brock Investment Group, Medical Staffing Network Inc. and Stephen Bradley & Associates LLC. From staff reports --
