As a third-generation member of the Melaver family, Martin serves in both a professional and cultural capacity, ensuring that the values and ethics of the Melaver family are translated into a tangible, practical, sustainable vision. He has direct responsibility for balancing the company's triple bottom line of social, environmental and financial return. Martin provides oversight and broad strategic direction to the firm while being the primary conduit to shareholders. He leads the Company's outreach to the broader sustainable business community, providing drive and purpose to the organization while offering his insights to various boards and panels in the advancement of broader sustainable objectives. 

CEO of Melaver, Inc., since 1992. BA in English/American Studies from Amherst College magna cum laude (1980); MA (1986) and PhD (1990) in English & American Literature from Harvard University; MBA from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (2004). Recipient of Fulbright Fellowship to Tel Aviv University, Dexter Fellowship to Jesus College, Cambridge University, Lady Davis Fellowship, Hebrew University. Co-author of The Green Building Bottom Line (McGraw-Hill, 2008) and Living Above the Store: Building a Business that Creates Value, Inspires Change, and Restores Land and Community (Chelsea Green, 2009). Board Chair of The Georgia Conservancy; Board member of The Ossabaw Island Foundation, Savannah Country Day School, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, and Coaltion of Environmental Jewish Leadership (COEJL).  Martin is LEED 2.0 accredited.

Personal Comments:

Running through my head these days is a line from Robert McKee.  I hope I get it right:  “A culture cannot evolve without honest, powerful storytelling.”  I hope our own business culture at Melaver, Inc. evolves in this way.
